In Grenchen, in the canton of Solothurn, Porsche Design is further expanding its watchmaking operations. The new manufacturing facility is located in the former Eterna building – a symbolic location for the brand, which aims to further strengthen its position in the high-end mechanical watch sector.
For several years now, Porsche Design has been pursuing an approach heavily inspired by the automotive world: extensive customisation options, direct references to Porsche vehicles, and functional design. Some chronographs, for example, can be configured with colours and materials taken directly from the Porsche world.
The connection between Porsche and watchmaking dates back to the 1970s. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the Porsche 911, developed the famous Chronograph I at that time – one of the first all-black chronographs on the market. This watch was worn, for example, by Tom Cruise in the films *Top Gun* and *Top Gun: Maverick*.
With its new Swiss manufacture, Porsche Design is underlining its commitment to producing technically sophisticated and exclusive timepieces. At the same time, the brand is strengthening its presence in the Swiss luxury watch industry – a sector in which credibility, quality and precision remain paramount.
